Magnesium Supplements and Painful Muscles

Do you take magnesium supplements but still have cramps and painful muscles?

Chances are you are not absorbing the magnesium you are taking due to an adrenal imbalance.

You may have seen my earlier blog regarding chocolate cravings and magnesium.

With the way life is for a lot of people these days – fast paced and stressful, our bodies can be in permanent fight or flight syndrome.  This can be triggered by a single stressful event or long term stress in your life, or just life!

Our adrenal system goes into overdrive and the permanent fight or flight condition causes an overload of adrenalin in our system ALL of the time.  Adrenalin then prevents magnesium from being absorbed into the body as it absorbs magnesium, taking it from its bond with calcium.  No matter how many magnesium supplements you take or how much magnesium you take in from your food, your body is not able to absorb it.  You then suffer from magnesium deficiency which can cause the following symptoms:-

  • Painful muscle cramps and spasms
  • Facial tics
  • Nerve twitches around the eyes or involuntary eye movements
  • Anxiety
  • Times of hyperactivity
  • Difficulty getting to sleep
  • Difficulty staying asleep
  • And of course, chocolate cravings!

When your body is in permanent fight or flight mode it only needs the heart and lungs to operate efficiently as your body’s response is to need to run, nothing else is required in that state.  Other systems become secondary like digestion and the reproductive system via the HPA axis (Hypothalamus, Pituitary, Adrenal).  You may then become aware of hormone imbalance causing problems with your whole reproductive system i.e. headaches, problems with periods etc.  Also that your digestive system is not working efficiently and you may develop constipation, food intolerances etc as well as the inability to absorb magnesium through your digestive system.

As well as magnesium not being utilised by the body in this state, when the magnesium is taken from it’s bond with calcium this leaves the calcium free to roam around the body and deposit in weak areas causing possible arthritis throughout the body and resulting in pain!

My training in muscle testing and adrenal balancing allows me to identify when this is happening in the body and bring the adrenal system back to balance, thus get the digestive system working again and bring the hormonal system back into balance.  This allows magnesium to be absorbed in the body and used as it should be to return the muscles to their natural pain free function and allow for better recovery after exercise.  It also allows the magnesium to bond with calcium again taking it away from the areas it shouldn’t be, therefore reducing pain.

This treatment can be done in a one hour session.  You will receive a bag of magnesium sulphate (Epsom salts) for a relaxing bath to bring your magnesium levels up quickly as you will be able to absorb it again! – and to bring your body out of magnesium deficiency.
